Fast Five Friday: Phone Apps


This blog hop is the brainchild of Dani and Jax over at Cover Girls and it's quickly become one of my favourites.  It's fast, in list format and I can participate as much or as little as I want. Which is cool, because sometimes life gets busy.

So I am just taking topics all willy nilly now as I got so far behind.  C'est la vie!

The topic for today's post is phone apps, and boy do I have a few of those.  My five favourites were pretty hard to pick but I narrowed it down for you:

1) Pact


Put your money up against doing healthy activities and make money if you complete your pact.  (because sometimes I need the push)

2) Checkout 51


Collect money back on stuff you are buying anyway, I LOVE, LOVE this app.

3) Duolingo


My kids are both in French Immersion now and can talk circles around me but I am catching up thanks to Duolingo.

4) Audible


I used to hate audio books, now I am so addicted to Audible, great for long walks and distance trips. Also great for at the gym.

5) Photo Repost


Because sometimes you just have to share that awesome thing that you saw on Instagram.

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
