Ready, Set, Write!: July 20, 2015

Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing—planning, drafting, or revising. This year, RSW is being hosted by Alison MillerKaty UppermanErin FunkElodie Nowodazkij, and of course,  Jamie Morrow which is how I found it.

This week's check up is a few days late.

1.  How I did on last week’s goals:

Well...my son left for Calgary on Friday so there's that but that's about all I've achieved outside of making it to work in the last week due to migraines from the depths of a place I won't name.  And well to be honest he did most of the work on that one.

2.  My goal(s) for this week:

  • Write something on my WiP
  • Pack, purge and pack some more
  • Go see Antman
  • Unearth my summer hats.
  • Schedule pick up of donation items
3.  A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised:

What I wrote this week was: nothing but I did find a way through a block that I was having while we were out for sushi so I have some awesome notes shoved in my wallet on the back of a receipt for when I get a chance to get back to it this week.

4.  The biggest challenge I faced this week (ex. finding time to write):

I was just too busy the last couple of weeks to get anything done on my WiP thanks to our lovely weather patterns rendering me useless half the time.

5.  Something I love about my WiP:

My darling fiance listened to me vent my way through a giant plot issue I wrote myself into over the weekend so now that Ace has gone to Calgary and I have one less kid to deal with and an extra hour to write a night I will be going into it with fresh eyes tonight so I am really excited.

  1. Don't you love it when you have a stroke of brilliance (on any project) and you're going at it once more?

I dabble in a lot of creative things and I sort of lean toward "blah" type moods that product nothing sometimes. I've had a blank canvas board staring at me for two weeks but I decided to try a new medium (acrylic) and now I'm excited to work on painting again. SCORE.

Have a great week - sounds like you have some good plans ahead.

  2. I love that one of your goals is to go see Ant-Man. I saw it and loved it!
Is your son moving to Calgary permanently? I've lived there for 15 years now. :)
    Have a great week!

  3. Finding a way through a block is definitely SOMETHING. Actually it's a huge something. I think a lot of times we give way too little credit to those epiphanies. They are so much a part of the process, we need to give our brain breaks to have them, so the week was definitely a productive one for you, IMHO. :) Hope you have a great week! Enjoy the movie!

  4. Notes on a back of a receipt ARE writing... not story writing, but still work on a story. Don't knock your accomplishments. Every bit counts. (And when you're a huge best-seller, that receipt is going to be gold to one of your fans.)

  5. Ha, sounds like me. I grab for whatever's in reach when inspiration strikes. =) Good luck this week!
