Celebrate The Small Things: May 22, 2015

This week I am celebrating the successful launch brunch that the Toronto chapter of Geek Girl Brunch had last weekend.  We had about 10 Brunchettes show up and given that it was a long weekend I think that was pretty great.  Now to gear up for next month's brunch, which has a Space Travelers theme.  (matches my wedding theme, great practice for me)

Also on my list of celebrations this week is that my phone has FINALLY been fixed and I have it back.  I have never been happier.  I missed it so much.

    Yay for brunch with 10 great geeky girls! Space traveling sounds like a great theme for next month. Big yay for the phone being fixed - who can live without one of those? :)

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
