Celebrate The Small Things: November 28, 2014


It's time again for the Celebrate the Small Things blog hop hosted by Scribblings of an Aspiring Author.  It's a chance to look back over the week and remember the things big and small that made it a little brighter.

I am excited this week to be getting to be nearing the end of my Christmas shopping, one or two small thing left and I will hopefully be done long before the day arrives.

Also Ace is going to a birthday party tonight so Cat and I are going to drop him off and go have dinner out.  That will be nice.

And to top the weekend off with a bang the kids and I are getting together with a friend and her son tomorrow to go to kid's fest downtown.  It should be a ton of fun and lots of outdoor fun for the kids means a quiet Sunday with Auntie Margie putting the Christmas tree up.

    Isn't it amazing how we can fit so much celebrating into one special time of year? Christmas does that to me, too. Enjoy it all, as we'll have to wait another long year for it to come around again.

    Congrats on dong so well on your Christmas shopping. I bet it's a relief to be almost done. I hope you and your kids have a fabulous time at the kid's fest! :)

    Ugh! I just bought my first Christmas gift (Amazon has its Cyber Monday deals going on and I found something good for half price). I'm still recovering from being out of town for five days for Thanksgiving--getting caught back up on my work. Hopefully later this week I can take a break and work a little online shopping in.

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
